Abstract: The Nipple-Areola Preserving Mastectomy
نویسندگان
چکیده
RESULTS: Reconstruction was achieved without any failure or NAC losses in all 40/40 breasts, 20 bilateral targeted two stage risk reducing mastopexy/reduction and NSM/ SIR procedures. Patients median BMI was 30(22–44). Six patients were smokers and one had hypertension. Anatomical shaped silicone implants were used in all cases, average size 555 cc, (310 to 690). Average OR time for NSM/ SIR was 125 minutes (90 to 235). The median time between procedures was 133days (105–266). Two patients had a reoperation due to hematoma and fat necrosis. Five patients had minor complications. The median follow-up is currently 220 days (30 to 602).

The Nipple-Areola Preserving Mastectomy: A Multistage Procedure Aiming to Improve Reconstructive Outcomes following Mastectomy
UNLABELLED Ischemia of the nipple-areola complex (NAC) and periareolar tissue is commonly seen following tissue-preserving mastectomies for small invasive and noninvasive cancers. The nipple-areola preserving mastectomy is a multistage procedure in which the NAC and central mastectomy flap tissue is surgically delayed to improve the survivability in patients undergoing mastectomies followed by ...
متن کاملThe Nipple–Areola Preserving Mastectomy: The Value of Adding a Delay Procedure
BACKGROUND Conservative mastectomy procedures, such as the nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM), present appealing options for patients with small invasive or noninvasive malignancies and those needing prophylactic mastectomies. Despite outstanding postoperative cosmetic results, nipple-areola complex (NAC) and mastectomy skin flap (MSF) survival remains a concern. We present our two-stage nipple-ar...
متن کاملPrediction of nipple and areola involvement in breast cancer.
AIMS To find a pre-operative test for nipple and areola involvement in breast cancer. METHODS Areola-tumour distance was measured in 140 consecutive patients (median age 45, range: 23-83) undergoing a mastectomy. We analysed whether nipple and areola correlated with areola-tumour distance, tumour size, nodal status, perinodal involvement and lymphatic embolization. RESULTS The nipple was in...
متن کاملAreola Size and Jugulum Nipple Distance After Bilateral Mastectomy and Breast Reconstruction
OBJECTIVE The combination of a single pedicle local flap with tattooing for complete nipple areola complex (NAC) reconstruction is currently the most supported method. Although many technical descriptions of NAC reconstruction exist in the medical literature, there are no data that define the ideal areola size (diameter of the areola) after bilateral mastectomy and breast reconstruction conside...
متن کاملTemporary banking of the nipple-areola complex in 97 skin-sparing mastectomies.
BACKGROUND Despite the improved appearance associated with skin-sparing mastectomy, removal of the nipple-areola complex has a negative impact on the patient. Still, nipple-areola complex-sparing mastectomy results in preservation of a substantial amount of mammary tissue at risk. This may be prevented by preservation of the nipple-areola complex as a graft that is temporarily banked (e.g., in ...
متن کاملAbstract: A Prospective Randomized Trial to Assess Perfusion and Patient Satisfaction in Nipple-Areola Skin Sparing Mastectomy with Immediate Reconstruction
Background: Nipple-areola and skin sparing mastectomy (NASSM) is an accepted and sought after option for eligible patients, and the rate of women undergoing this operation continues to climb. The main advantage of the procedure is the ability utilize existing skin envelope and NAC for improved shape, fewer operations, and less psychological impact on patients. There are many possible incisions,...
